The "China's Road to Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality" side event was held on the 12th at the "China Corner" of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30). The conference presented China's achievements and experiences in promoting carbon peak and carbon neutrality from multiple perspectives, expressing China's firm determination and practical actions to achieve the "dual carbon" goals to the international community.

This side event is jointly hosted by the National Energy Conservation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission of China and the China Circular Economy Association, with over a hundred representatives from relevant domestic and foreign institutions, social organizations, and the business community attending.

Li Gao, head of the Chinese delegation and deputy minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, pointed out that climate change is a major global challenge of universal concern to the international community, which is related to the future of humanity and the development of all countries. During the 14th Five Year Plan period, China actively promoted carbon peak and carbon neutrality, accelerated energy transformation, steadily promoted energy conservation and carbon reduction, significantly improved forest carbon sequestration capacity, and took significant steps towards building a beautiful China, making important contributions to global climate governance.

He stated that China has proposed to take carbon peak and carbon neutrality as the driving force, accelerate the construction of a new energy system, actively and steadily promote and achieve carbon peak, and accelerate the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development.

Chinese climate change envoy Liu Zhenmin emphasized the need to stand at the height of building a community with a shared future for mankind, uphold multilateralism, adhere to pragmatic cooperation, and promote stable and far-reaching global climate governance.

Wang Shancheng, Director of the Environmental Resources Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, shared the progress and achievements of China's major declaration of carbon peak and carbon neutrality over the past five years, based on the recent release of the White Paper on China's Action to Achieve Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality by the State Council Information Office.

He introduced that China is accelerating the construction of a green, low-carbon and circular development economic system, and has cultivated more than 6400 green factories and 490 green industrial parks. The production and sales of new energy vehicles are leading the world; Building the world's largest renewable energy system, with renewable energy installations accounting for nearly 60% of all power generation installations, and wind and solar power installations achieving the 2030 target more than 6 years ahead of schedule; As the largest exporter of clean technology, we provide 70% of the world's wind power equipment and 80% of photovoltaic modules, driving a significant reduction in the cost of wind and solar power generation and making positive contributions to global efforts to address climate change and promote green and low-carbon development.
